Our mission is to shorten the gap in quality exercise and personal training options for children and adults on the autism spectrum.
What We Do ?
Our Mission
Here at Wellness on the spectrum, we believe that your diagnosis should not limit your options for quality fitness and wellness training. With the unique combination of a personal trainer for over 13 years and a BCBA who specializes in autism spectrum disorder, our mission is to bridge the gap for exercise options for individuals of all ages diagnosed with ASD. Science proves that exercise controls weight, combats health conditions, and diseases as well as releases feel-good hormones (endorphins) that can help reduce anxiety. Some individuals with autism have trouble coordinating movements between the left and right sides of the body making it difficult to complete daily living skills. Others may have low muscle tone and difficulty with coordination posture and balance. Using our knowledge in exercise science and behavioural therapy we provide individualized training programs that will meet our clients’ fitness goals.
Our Goal
Wellness on the spectrum is unique due to our combination of Behavior Science and exercise to create attainable and meaningful wellness goals for the individuals we serve. Our goal is to personalize a fitness plan for our clients instead of taking a one size fits all approach.
Services
What We Offer
Using our knowledge in exercise training and behavior science we offer one on one individualized personal training sessions and group fitness class options. We create tailored exercise programs that assist individuals with autism in increasing coordination, strength, endurance, and body awareness. They will not only build these skills but our classes will provide an amazing socialization opportunity. Wherever your child, teen, or adult is developmentally; our fitness curriculum ensures that they will be challenged yet successful.
A study from Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology states that 79 percent of autistic children have movement impairments, which has the potential to worsen with an inactive lifestyle. Physical activity may not only decrease negative behaviors but can increase mood, improve coping skills, and enhance overall quality of life. Tailored exercises programs can assist individuals with autism in increasing coordination, strength, endurance, and body awareness
